The other night my mother and I decided to take in a piece of old Hollywood and have dinner at The Tower Bar in the Sunset Tower Hotel.
It was clear from the moment we entered the hotel that the hospitality we are used to at some of the other establishments had not yet made it to the Tower. No one offered to help us find the restaurant despite the look of utter bewilderment on our faces and only after asking 2 people were we directed to the outdoor terrace.
Now all that aside, the terrace had a breathtaking view of the city, and the little snacks served with our drinks were a nice touch that I think has been lost in the bar scene of today.
We were seated late for a 6 PM reservation in a restaurant with no people and no music, but again the table and the view made up for this oversight in my opinion.
Note to anyone thinking of coming to the Tower Bar for dinner…have a late dinner!!! By the time my mother and I were finishing our meal, the live piano playing had begun and the restaurant was filling up.
I enjoyed the food very much–but expect to spend a pretty penny.
I think I will return to the Sunset Tower, but maybe for just for a glass of wine and a song. This is a great restaurant to just sit and be alone with your thoughts, the view, and Bing Crosby.
