If you’re looking to spend this Memorial Day Weekend soaking up the sun, chowin’ down on some meaty eats, and sipping on local suds then you are in good company (the millions actually)! Here are my picks if you’d like to experience a low key, super cheap, but still awesome Memorial Day in Los Angeles.
Sun & Fun
You would have to be crazy to go to the beach on Memorial Day right?? Not if you head there early and plan ahead!
My two favorites right now are Crystal Cove in Newport Beach and Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach. If you’re heading to Newport Beach I suggest making a reservation at The Beachcomber Cafe to coincide with your visit. You can literally hang out on the beach right in front before you’re sat at your table. Insider Tip:Opentable isn’t available for day of reservations, so if you don’t plan ahead then make them there BEFORE you explore the beach. Otherwise be prepared to wait 2 hours. Breakfast starts at 7 am:)
Looking to include your fur baby on this holiday? Rosie’s Dog Beach allows for off-leash fun and is the only off-leash dog beach in L.A. County! Located in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach, the beach is open from 6 AM-8PM. Hungry? Head to Second and Saint and enjoy outdoor patio seating for fido and friends.
Eats & Treats
Kicking off Thursday May 25th with National Wine Day, Flemings will be offering a combo special all weekend which includes The Prime Burger and a glass of Stag’s Leap Syrah for only $20!
On Friday May 26th you can eat FOR FREE at the Grand Opening ofMilk & Honey in Hollywood. Guests can enjoy a FREE Regular Size Wellness Bowl or a FREE Waffle Cake anytime between 10:00 am to 1:00 pm!
Each Wellness Bowl begins with a base of blended fruit and a touch of extra sweetness that comes courtesy of a Bennett’s Honey Farm honey comb. Pair that with a carefully curated selection of toppings such as edible California grown flowers from Fresh Origins and you’ve got yourself a breakfast!
While the Waffle Cake might sound like it has evil written all over it it’s actually made from a batter without the use of refined sugar and uses ingredients like fluffy Taiyaki from Japan that cannot be found anywhere else. The waffle cake is then filled with a sweet or savory cream cheese base like Honey Smoked Salmon or Pesto Basil. So I’m pretty sure it’s better than your average bagel 🙂
Still hungry?! Sunday May 28th also happens to be National Burger Day! Enjoy some of the one-day offerings to be had at restaurants like Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks. Specials include the FrenchOnion Dip Burger made with Wagyu Beef, Gruyere, BBQ Potato Chips, Crispy Onions, French Onion Dip, and Pickles; and their Breakfast Bomb! made with Wagyu Beef, Bourbon Maple Syrup, Pancake Battered Bacon, American Cheese, and topped with a Fried Egg.
