National Hot Butterered Rum Day–oh yeah this is a thing!

National Hot Buttered Rum Day…the drink to keep you warm on those cold LA Nights in January.

Where to Find it in Los Angeles

Might I suggest a hot buttered rum cocktail today created by expert mixologist Ryan Wainwright of The Tasting Kitchen in Venice!

Ingredients include dark rum, housemade butter batter, apple butter, fresh-pressed ginger, Allspice dram, hot water, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and dark brown sugar as a sweetener

How to Make one Yourself!

Rather make one yourself? Then go with this recipe by Martha Stewart –or at the very least make some spiced butter!

To make spiced butter:  Beat (1 stick) room-temperature unsalted butter, 1/2 cup packed dark-brown sugar, 2 teaspoons finely grated orange zest, 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons fresh peeled and grated ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg with a hand or stand mixer until well combined.

For each drink:  Add a heaping tablespoon spiced butter to a heatproof glass.  Add 1 1/2 ounces spiced rum, and top with 6 ounces boiling water.  Garnish with cinnamon stick, orange zest, and a splash of orange juice if desired.
