Takami Sushi–Japanese food in the sky

Downtown Los Angeles holds some of the best new restaurants in the city, but Takami Sushi & Robata is an absolute staple.

This weekend, 21 stories above the rest, my fiancé and I enjoyed a $49 pre-fixe menu at Takami—brought to you by travelzoo.com.

I began the meal with a signature Serrano cocktail and my man-a fan of superior light beer-finally got a Sapporo light! Strangely enough it’s hard to find these babies, even at our neighborhood Ralphs.

We each were served an appetizer platter, which was a pleasant surprise as I assumed we would be sharing one for the low price we paid. The scallops were superb and went down like buttery clouds.

For the main course we each had a sushi roll. I ordered a lobster roll which was surprising light, while my other half had a Takami roll, which is the best option if you are looking for the most protein.

We were served two desserts instead of one, thanks to a very generous waiter, and we sampled the chocolate lava cake and a Japanese tiramisu. While I am always a fan of the sweets, there was nothing stupendous about either of these dishes, but the tiramisu was certainly inventive. I recommend saving more room for the rolls!

My only pet peeve of the whole night was a very nasty hostess at the front who seemed to look down at us because of the zoo…

I always think restaurants should be kind to all patrons, and take it out on the owners instead, because these restaurant certificates don’t’ come out thin air! I’m proud to be a 20% on top of the original bill tipper…and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
