Tacos por Todos!

Los Angeles is not lacking in taco options. In fact you could probably eat at a different restaurant every day of the year without repeating yourself! This week I bring you spots for day 1,2, and 3.

The Only Thing Better than a Trejos Taco…

…is a truck! Danny Trejo has put his La Brea location on wheels and could be rolling into a neighborhood near your soon! Currently the Trejo’s Truck will be serving  a rotating menu of four tacos starting with brisket, pork, cauliflower and grilled chicken – along with horchata, aguas frescas and chips and guacamole. Additional road trips to San Antonio, Seattle, Las Vegas and San Diego are also in the future so follow @trejostruck on Instagram and Twitter to pinpoint the exact location.

Now for something truly EPIC

Epic Taco Shop in Montrose has only been open since January of this year, but it has already become a neighborhood staple. I made my first visit on a Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and almost every table was filled with happy adults and kids rocking out to loud music that makes this spot seem almost too cool for Glendale.

Owner Michael Ruiz, who is also a local resident, created this spot after seeing a need for this kind of thing in the neighborhood. Using only the freshest and finest ingredients Ruiz still manages to keep the per taco price at $4.00 or less, so don’t even ask why they aren’t open on “taco tuesdays”. Wednesday thru Sunday though expect only the best food from this BYOB punk paradise. The porkbelly carnitas with sriracha maple, pickled onions, and cotija cheese just might change your life ($3.50).

Baby Bonus: The music is more raucous than your screaming toddler. Theory tested out by yours truly :). But if you still feel uncomfortable there is always outdoor seating.

Mariscos Jalisco

Possibly the best seafood taco truck swimming in a sea of them is Raul Ortega’s Mariscos Jalisco in East L.A. The ultimate fan favorite is the taco dorado de camarones which is a deep fried shrimp taco topped with salsa and avocado, although I’m also a fan of their mixta ceviche. A meal on wheels means no seats for you, but take this as an opportunity to explore this great city that we live in with the ones you love.
