Planning an Award Winning 2017 Oscar Party

When planning the perfect Oscar Party in Los Angeles you must make it your job to offer a well rounded interpretation of what this year’s movie round-up really  mean to you while still keeping your guests on your toes. Here are my tips to make this 2017 Oscar party one people truly remember.

The Cuisine

Start the party off by talking about the movie most of your guests probably all saw… La La Land. Meanwhile begin passing around a tray of pupusas from Sarita’s Pupuseria as seen as part of that fabulous movie montage that made you love this city all over again.

Weave in some movie trivia and ask your guests “what don’t you want” while offering them a T-Bone steak bringing to mind Hell or High Water.

Trying to keep the costs down? Then do the next best thing and serve up some Peruvian Steak Sammies with spicy aji amarillo marinated steak, Oaxacan cheese, herb aioli, red onions, tomatoes, and shredded romaine on panini-pressed torta buns from Mendocino Farms.  

Next play a game of name that film with a simple plate of frozen chicken and see who can guess it’s inspired by Manchester by the Sea.

But before anyone gets too grossed out swap that out for some cooked Arroz con Pollo (chicken with rice) as seen tenderly prepared in the film Moonlight. If you don’t trust yourself to make it then pick some up at Baracoa Cuban Cafe in Atwater Village. Only available until it’s gone 🙂

Combine the beauty of two films in one with a serving of Messy Greens from Locol in Watts. Not only is it reminiscent of the collard greens dish heralded by Viola Davis’s character in Fences,  but it’s vegan and non-violent and something that Andrew Garfield’s character from Hacksaw Ridge might approve of.

For dessert, it’s got to be Jalebi inspired by the movie Lion. You can pick up these fried spiral rolls of happiness at India Sweet House on Pico Boulevard.

The Cocktails

Only serve drinks with celebrity endorsements tonight! Begin with a round of Old Fashioned cocktails made with The Hilhaven Lodge whiskey. It also happens to be the same whiskey the celebs will be enjoying at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Ball after-party! The brand is named after the Hilhaven Lodge, home of director and brand co-founder Brett Ratner.

Later spice up the party with shots of smoky herbal Tres Papalote Mezcal  that has been given the Cheech Marin seal of approval 🙂
