Get to know the North Hollywood Farmer’s Market

I am a frequent visitor to my neighborhood North Hollywood Farmer’s Market, but generally, I only stick to the fruits and veggies. This week I went to THE OTHER SIDE and was pleasantly surprised by what I found there!

Come Ready to Eat

I came very hungry and allowed myself to consume and be consumed with the plethora of samples I was offered! You literally could eat lunch for free at the farmers market! I chose to buy everything I tried instead…

Homeboy Industries was giving out a fantastic cheese bread, and they made sure I knew all about the charity the bakery supports while I was busy munching. For those of you who don’t know Homeboy Industry helps at-risk gang youth. Their motto is “nothing stops a bullet like a job”.

One booth over was home-made veggie chips and nuts, and after one beet chip I was hooked. I went home with 1 bag of veggies, 1 bag of beets, and 1 bag of crisp apples; which when mixed together create quite the sweet and savory combo.

My Favorite Find

My favorite farmers find was a cuisine I’m not too familiar with-Afghan food! The product line is called Bolani and the guy behind the table was an absolute sales pro! He reeled me in with a complement and the promise of something amazing. Then he created these magic bolanis with various sauces and jellies. Of course, because it tasted so good, it forced me to buy EVERYTHING he put on the bolani…but at least I got the fifth product free 🙂

My favorite combination was the pumpkin bolani with lentil curry and sweet jalapeno jelly. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find this company  since but I’m sure they aren’t the only ones who bolani!

The Takeaway

I feel like this blog suddenly became about my Bolani discovery…it’s actually about the North Hollywood Farmers Market. Most every neighborhood has one, so go check it out. The produce is fresher and cheaper than a grocery store, and you never know what culinary discoveries you’ll make!
