Getting Ziggy with it: A Review of Hotel Ziggy West Hollywood

The Sunset Strip is an area synonymous with rock and roll and wild nights, made famous by clubs like Whiskey a Go Go in the 1960s and The Viper Room in the 1990s. Hotel Ziggy West Hollywood is here to bring the music back to the Sunset Strip, and you feel it from the moment you set foot outside the hotel. Here’s what you can expect from a stay at one of the most centrally located hotels on the strip at one of the most affordable prices.

Make sure you play this article to the end for Insider Tips.

What’s in a name: Hotel Ziggy

Hotel Ziggy is named for Ziggy Stardust, the on-stage alien rockstar persona created by musician David Bowie in the early 1970s. It’s synonymous with sexual androgyny and superstar music which Hotel Ziggy exemplifies from the moment your car arrives at the Valet. The music follows you from the outside as you approach the front desk, flanked by walls of records and rock star posters.

The vibe is relaxed and easy in the lobby, where you’ll find the restaurant B-Side Pizza and the Live Music performance space Backbeat, as well as lots of seating just to hang out.

As I mentioned, this hotel is centrally located between the 1 Hotel and the Mondrian and across the street from the Comedy Store and hotspot restaurant, Katana. There also appears to be a new crop of weed shops in the area, but there’s no smoking at Hotel Ziggy.

Rooms at the Hotel Ziggy

The rooms at Hotel Ziggy fall into categories like Rock Out Solo Sunset Strip King Rooms and See and Not Be Seen Pool View King Rooms. The lobby is located on the 3rd Floor, and you’ll find some Suites on the 4th Floor, but for the most part, all the rooms are located on the floors below.

All rooms include Bathroom Amenities from Malin + Goetz, Complimentary WiFi, a Mini Fridge, a Flat Screen TV, and music accessories like Bluetooth Headphones or a Record Player. There’s also a Keurig Coffee Machine and Two Bottles of Water in eco-friendly aluminum cans. Depending on your room category, you might have a Sofa. The Studio Loft on the 4th Floor is the largest room category at 500 square feet and has room for four people.

The Sunset Strip King Room is big enough for two people at 290 square feet, although it’s in the Rock Out Solo Category. It has a Desk and Footstool, and there is lots of storage space for clothes in the bedroom dresser and closet, where you will also find a Robe. The bathroom in this room is on the smaller side but has everything you need to get the job done and a very powerful shower.

On-Site Amenities at Hotel Ziggy

Hotel Ziggy is home to the largest Salt Water Pool in West Hollywood, which you can access as a guest. You’ll find it on the 1st Floor, and there is also an Observation Deck and a Cozy Nook with a Couch.

The 4th Floor features a Loft Space with a Pool Table, Vinyl Records, and TVs with Music Videos playing on silent, as there is always music playing in the hotel.

Entertainment Loft Space

You’ll also find a Shred Shed where guests can access musical instruments like Guitars, Amps, Record Players, Records, Ukeleles, and Tambourines upon request.

There is a 24-hour gym on the 1st Floor, with Free Weights, a Cable System, and Cardio Equipment, including a Peloton Bike, but I recommend a run along with the Sunset Strip (especially in the morning) if you’re capable. The juxtaposition of those busy Hollywood nights with the seemingly abandoned streets in the morning is a lot of fun to experience firsthand.

The hotel provides FREE Coffee every morning from 6:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. and FREE Margaritas in the lobby from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., so there’s something for everyone.

FREE Concerts happen every Saturday and Sunday for hotel guests, either by the Pool or in the Backbeat space off the lobby. They also host WFNM (We Found New Music) weekly events to showcase local talent. If you’re not staying in the hotel, you have to pay a cover, so this is a great amenity if you like Live Music. Check the calendar during your stay and ask the front desk, as they aren’t all listed.

Dining at B-Side Pizza

All the dining, from Breakfast to Late-night, is happening at B-Side Pizza in the lobby or with Room Service in your room. The food is all delicious, and the laid-back atmosphere where you seat yourself makes you feel like family.

Breakfast must-haves include the Breakfast Sandwich with Beeler’s bacon or sausage and Calabrian chili aioli or Buttermilk Pancakes.

For All Day Dining from noon to close, I recommend any of the six Pizzas, which you can get by the slice or the pie, as well as the Hot Cheetos Mac N’ Cheese Balls or Summer Beet Salad. Pictured below is the Cacio e Pepe white pizza.

The cocktails all have album-inspired names like a That’s Life bourbon-based drink and the Evil Ways (below), made with tequila or mezcal, cucumber, and jalapeño simple syrup. You’ll find it on the Specialty Beverages menu.

Insider Tips

Here are a few things to know before you go:

  1. If you like the music but don’t want to feel the music all night long, find out where the Live Music will be and ask that your room be on the opposite side. For example, the 4th Floor is off-limits if there’s a concert in the Backbeat Lounge and you want to be asleep by 11 p.m. Corner King Rooms and Swimups are the quietest in that case – unless there’s a DJ by the pool spinning that night.
  2. Children are allowed by not exactly encouraged, as the hotel does not offer cribs. They do, however, offer Dog and Cat Beds – which come along with your pet fee.
  3. The AC offers an amazing White Noise Soundtrack to fall asleep to – if that’s your thing :).
  4. The Crowd is a mix of music lovers and music makers, young and old, so play on!

Hotel Ziggy is located at 8462 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90069. Check-in is at 3 p.m., and Check out is a Noon. Parking is available through the on-site Valet.
