Weekend of March 8th

Slab BBQ x Prince Street Pizza (Various)

SLAB BBQ and Prince Street Pizza are uniting for the 3rd year in a row with a BBQ Chicken Pizza collab beginning Friday, March 8th, for a limited time. The pizza features smoked chicken and BBQ sauce from Slab BBQ, along with red onion, mozzarella, and cilantro on a grandma-style crust from Prince Street Pizza. It’s served with a side of ranch sauce, which is generally a no-no for PSP, but they are making an exception for this one.

During the inaugural weekend, this item will be available only on the Postmates app (from March 8th to the 14th). From March 15th to April 7th, you can get it at Prince Street Pizza, and 20% of the proceeds will benefit Children’s Hospital LA for Make March Matter.

If you like the idea of giving back to CHLA, also consider visiting Alfred Coffee, Fat Sal’s, Portos, and a whole list of Los Angeles restaurants during the month of March to have a portion of your purchase donated to the cause. More details are in the Make March Matter link above.

Stay (Chinatown)

Are you staying dry this January? Well, there’s never been a better time to visit L.A.’s first zero-proof cocktail lounge, Stay, in Chinatown. The menu features an impressive list of complex cocktail combinations crafted sans alcohol, like The Ox, made with Kentucky 74 Bourbon alternative and served directly from a smoking cloche. They’ve also got Wine and Beer alternatives like Surely Sparkling Brut and Best Day Hazy IPA. On the food side, you’ve got a small array of vegan bar bites like Castelvetrano Olives Marinated in Orange Serrano and Mint courtesy of Kitchen Mouse in Highland Park. The vibe is on par with what you’ll find at a traditional cocktail lounge, and the prices are too – don’t expect a discount just because it doesn’t have liquor. Stay is open from 5 p.m. to midnight, Thursday to Sunday.

NORMA (West Hollywood)

West Hollywood has a new “living room” at restaurant NORMA, which opened this past week, from restauranteur Alican Bayer. The restaurant is open for dinner and Sunday brunch and is meant to feel like a members’ club with no membership, which is always your home away from home. From Heirloom Carrots to Australian Wagyu Strip Loin, the menu has a taste of the familiar with a few twists. Brunch has everything from Lobster Benedict to Whole Grain Organic Blueberry Pancakes. Hours are 6 p.m. to midnight, Tuesday to Saturday, and then midnight to 2 a.m. for bar bites on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday Brunch takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Cheeseburger Centennial (Pasadena)

Legend has it that the Cheeseburger was invented in Pasadena, California, by Lionel Sternberger at The Rite Spot. In honor of the commemoration, hotels in Pasadena are offering FREE Cheeseburgers along with your stay, and restaurants like Slab Pasadena are offering a free house beverage with purchase.

Pasadena Cheeseburger Week kicks off this Sunday, January 21st, when you can fill in a whole Cheeseburger Passport to win prizes.

Also, be sure to visit Barney’s Beanery, which is even older than the Cheeseburger and has several locations – including one in Pasadena. Founded in 1920, this burger and bean spot is not showing signs of slowing down – and has come up with a new burger patty to prove it!

The brand new Juicy Lucy Burgers are cheese-stuffed hamburger patties in flavors like Spicy Jalapeño, Three Cheese, and BBQ Bacon. My personal favorite is the Spicy Jalapeño Juicy Lucy, which is stuffed with jalapeños, American and cheddar cheese, and topped with grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato. It’s just the right amount of hot ($18).
