I’ve been on a wellness kick lately, eagerly guinea-pigging my way through Los Angeles to find the next best activity to optimize my health. Here are the latest trendy wellness activities in Los Angeles that you need to be doing.

The Micromassage
If you only have 25 minutes to spare, The NOW Massage Boutique has a delicious menu of massages to choose from. Options include The NOW, The Healer, and The Stretch, all available from 25 to 80 minutes. What I love about this place, compared to something like Burke Williams, is that it’s all business. There’s no steam or sauna, just a candlelit space with roaring ocean sounds and a Joshua Tree earthiness. Conversation is also not allowed. The 8-item enhancement menu features everything from Gliding Cupping to Crystal Hot Stones. Having 8 to choose from encourages a membership so you can try them all at a discounted price. That 25-minute massage, though, costs the same whether you’re a member or not: $70, with enhancements at $20 each. For reference, members pay $95 for a 50-minute massage, while non-members pay $135. A membership means you commit to a monthly massage, with roll-over credits you can even share with others. Locations span from Pasadena to Long Beach and everything in between.

The Wellness Suite
If you have an hour to spare, check yourself into a Wellness Suite at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel. Choices include the Hyperion Recovery Suite and the Soma Suite. Each is tricked out with different modalities to help your body recover from stress or a great workout. The Santa Monica Proper Hotel is a leader in the wellness space, but you don’t need to be a Proper Club Member or a hotel guest to check into the suite.
Upon arrival, a team member will lead you upstairs from the lobby and orient you to the room. It’s a regular hotel room, minus the bed. So you’ll still have access to a Full-Bathroom, along with spa amenities like Tea, Water, and light Snacks.

The Hyperion Recovery Suite experience begins with 15 minutes in the Thrive/TheraLight 360 Red Light Bed. It’s designed to reduce inflammation and speed up cellular repair. Although similar to a tanning bed, you don’t need to worry about getting any negative rays along with the light warmth.

Next, it’s suggested to double up on a treatment by combining the BEMER PEMF mat with the Hyperice Boots. I draped my mat over a chair and hung out in the boots for 15 minutes. PEMF Therapy is designed to increase blood flow while the compression boots aid in lymphatic drainage. While you won’t feel anything on the BEMER mat, you will feel the boots tightening on your legs.

A new addition to the suite on my visit was the Shift Wave Chair. It helps regulate your nervous system with pulses in a zero-gravity chair. You wear blackout eye covers and headphones, which guide you through every movement. This will literally shake you to the core, but the intermediate moments of bliss were something I’ve never experienced. It’s only 10 minutes, so even if it feels a bit out of your comfort zone, it’s doable. By the way, it costs over $10,000 to own a Shift Wave Chair – so getting to use it along with all these other amenities at just $140 is a bargain.

After your journey to space, warm up in the Clearlight Infrared Sauna. It’s the perfect finisher and will take you to the end of your 60 minutes.

The Soma Suite includes a Private Cold Plunge and Sauna, both on a cozy balcony, as well as something called an Ammortal Chamber, which is an add-on available to both suites. The Ammortal Chamber features PEMF Therapy you can feel and a soothing Guided Meditation where you can customize your journey beforehand. During the 25-minute experience, you’ll receive hydrogen through your nose, feel vibrations for stress reduction, and walk out feeling relaxed and alert. Once again, I’d like to point out that buying your own costs $170,000, so $ 125 for a 30-minute reservation feels digestible.

Book your Wellness Suite experience on SpaTime. I recommend the Recovery Suite + Ammortal Chamber combo for $195.
The Full Soak
The ultimate spa day is when you can actually take A FULL DAY for a retreat that’s less than 2 hours from Los Angeles. Murrieta Hot Springs Resort offers both a Day Pass and an Overnight Stay, and while the day pass includes multiple activities and hot springs access, the overnight stay gives you the flexibility to enjoy the tubs anytime overnight, along with classes like Aqua Yoga and Aqua Soundbath that only hotel guests have access to.

I recommend a weeknight Wednesday stay to get a great room rate, plus access to special Classes, Live Jazz, and a discounted Prix Fixe at their signature restaurant Talia.

Wellness begins from the inside out. What are you putting in your body?
