Checking in for your Pupcation
A visit to the Latin American–inspired Hotel Maya, Long Beach begins in the gorgeous lobby, decked out in colored glass and high ceilings. The music is inviting and makes you want to dance all the way to your hotel room, which can be found in one of four buildings. There’s ample self-parking, so you can find a space right near your room.

The main building includes indoor access to Fuego Restaurant and a Small Boutique for snacks, drinks, and any hotel merchandise you might want to pick up.

You can choose to walk your puppy into the place, or perhaps leave him outside with Little Maya until you’re all keyed up. The Throw Me a Bone package also includes special Welcome Treats upon check-in.

Accomodations
During my stay with the Throw me a Bone room package, I enjoyed a top-floor room with Queensbay views and an extra-large space for me and my two babies (fur and for real :)). Often with pet-friendly stays, you can expect to stay on the bottom floor with easy access to grass, but my dog also loved the balcony to relax on in the sunshine.

Pets can enjoy a good night’s rest on the Pull-out Sofa, you and yours can luxuriate in the 400 Thread Count Sheets in either a King-Sized Bed or two Queens.

The bathroom comes with a Tub/Shower Combo and Aromatherapy Associates Products.

Additional amenities include Keurig Coffee and a Mini-Fridge, as well as ample space for work and play.

The Throw me a Bone package removes pet fees for up to two pets and includes Complimentary Self-Parking and Welcome Treats.

Additional Amenities at The Hotel Maya Long Beach
Your stay at the Hotel Maya Long Beach includes access to a Fitness Center, located right near the main building. There’s also access to Bike and Jet Ski Rentals right on the property.

During our stay, we hung out at the Private Beach, which is perfect for kids, and saves you the drive and sandy car.

The Pool and Hot Tub Area features a Bar and Lawn Games. Overall, I loved the private atmosphere and family-friendly vibes. The hotel actually discourages parties, which is what you’re looking for when enjoying a Pupcation.

Fuego Restaurant
All of your dining will be done at Fuego Restaurant, which has lovely indoor/outdoor flow and no bad seat in the house. They also handle all the In-Room Dining. The restaurant is open at 6 a.m. for Breakfast, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for All-Day, and has special Brunch and Dinner hours on the weekend. If you’re there on a weekday, though, I encourage a visit during Happy Hour from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday to save some money on that Fuego Classic Margarita – which is a must!

The Latin-inspired menu from Executive Chef Luis Torres includes starters like Guacamole – made fresh several times a day, and seafood-centric favorites like Crab Cakes and Ancho-dusted Fried Calamari.

Main dishes include everything from a Mayan Burger to a decadent Filet Mignon, but when I’m having Margaritas, it’s hard not to focus on Ceviches and Tacos. The flavors of Fuego Tacos include Pork Belly, Grilled Fish, and Soy-Glazed Wild Mushroom, among others. Come with a group so you can try them all!

All the food was fresh and delicious, but the star of the show for me was the new Bark Bites Menu. To say that my dog enjoyed the Pup Power Bowl is the understatement of the year! He gobbled up those beautifully shaped bits of chicken and sweet potato at a speed I haven’t seen before! I even had to hold a few back for later (he’s 14 with a weak stomach). But he enjoyed the dish the next morning too. A win-win for everyone.

Final Thoughts on a Pupcation at the Hotel Maya Long Beach
The Hotel Maya Long Beach is a chill spot to enjoy bayside living at a slower pace. I love the proximity to the Queen Mary and the free shuttle service that gets you around Downtown Long Beach. As far as staying with a pet, it’s perfect, because there is so much green space, and you don’t have to walk through a huge lobby to access it. There are lots of waterfront walking paths, and we caught everything from sunrise to sunset. The price point of the Hotel Maya Long Beach makes it a reasonable staycation if you’re local too.
