Caroline’s Cravings: What to Eat in LA This Week
Perhaps you didn’t know, but EatDrinkLA is run solely by one person: Caroline Gelabert-Noh. I’m a 41-year-old married mother of two who lives on the East Side of Los Angeles. This backstory is important because it shapes the way I choose what to feature on this website. After over a decade of trying to cover every bite in the city, I finally slowed down, and so did my stomach. I don’t have time to stand in lines for FOMO food, but if I could, I’d eat at least one new thing every week. Can you relate? Then this is the post for you. It’s my honest, crave-worthy look into where I would schlep the whole family when I think about What to Eat in LA this Week.
Don’t forget to follow EatDrinkLA and get this post delivered to your inbox every Friday for the week ahead. Together, we can discover the best new bites that are worth your valuable time and money. This piece is updated weekly, so be sure to read the week ahead as well as the week we’re in for new foodie news. It will always be at the top.

No one could have predicted the popularity of Salt & Straw’s collaboration with Taco Bell, but The Tacolate is here to stay. What is a Tacolate, you ask? It’s a hand-pressed extra-crunched waffle cone taco filled with cinnamon ancho chili ice cream, dipped in single-origin chocolate, and studded with toasted quinoa. All tacos are served with two custom Taco Bell-inspired sauce packets in Mango Jalapeño and Wildberry Cinnamon flavor.
In celebration, a Taco Bell Truck will be at Salt & Straw’s Abbot Kinney shop from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 24th (restock day). If you purchase a Tacolate, you can show your receipt to get a FREE Taco from the truck while supplies last.
What I love about this is that the Tacolate is also available for Nationwide Shipping – so you don’t have to join the crowds unless you’re feeling the fiesta.

Art meets ice cream with this Jeni’s Ice Cream collab with artist CJ Hendry. As opposed to her hyper-realistic drawings, this Opaque flavor is something you can actually eat! It’s made with black cocoa, espresso fudge, and balsamic cherry jam, and is the only jet black ice cream I think I’ve ever seen. Taste it beginning on August 14th and visit the NYC pop-up this weekend if you’re in the area at 390 W Broadway from August 15th to the 17th.

Men & Beasts in Echo Park is known for modern Chinese cuisine using plant-based artistry whenever possible. The restaurant from husband-and-wife team Chef Alex Falco and Minty Zhu just opened in June, and they are hosting a FREE Event on August 16th to let you in on the magic. The first event on Saturday is a Gongfu tea ceremony and tasting at 1 p.m. as part of Echo Park Rising, and you can see more info for the day here. If you can’t make it on the 16th, consider stopping in for dinner or brunch and enjoying the Sweet & Sour Mushrooms. They are made with crispy oyster mushrooms instead of pork.

Saltie Girl is THE spot for Lobster Rolls in West Hollywood, and this limited-time offering with Fly By Jing is about to spice things up in a big way! From now until the first week of September, you can enjoy a Fried Szechuan Lobster Roll featuring crispy fried lobster, aromatic spices, and a sweet and spicy chili crisp courtesy of Fly By Jing ($44). What to Eat in LA This Week of August 4th
Have you ever used ramen noodles for a pasta dish because all you had was a can of sauce in your stash? Well, viral food creator Gianluca Conte – known as QCP on TikTok – is doing it in a much more professional way with JINYA Ramen Bar.
You can stop in for a bowl of “Ciao” Ramen beginning August 4th. The fusion includes a tomato purée soup base in creamy chicken broth with garlic, olive oil, and herbs. It’s topped with sous vide chicken, spinach, cherry tomatoes, chili oil, basil oil, and finished with tableside Parmesan cheese.

One of my favorite trendy wine bars is trading in candlelight for some summer sun. Wife and the Somm from husband-and-wife duo Christy and Chris Lucchese occupies an open-air space in Glassell Park and specializes in farm-to-table cuisine and carefully curated wines. The new brunch menu will feature everything from Housemade Sweet or Savory Biscuits of the Day to Eggs with Caviar and Bone Marrow Toast.
Brunch bevvies include a Primo Spritz and access to the Full Wine List with options to purchase bottles for home. Sunday brunch takes place every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reserve here.

Tuesday, August 29th, offers a very cool collab at Wildcrust in Highland Park. Chef/Owner Miles Okabayashi is calling it So You Think You Can Toss? In case you aren’t familiar, Wildcrust specializes in traditional Neopolitan techniques with 48-hour fermented sourdough. The prices are moderate, and there’s something to satisfy both developed and straightforward palates. The Guest Chef of the night is Anthony Wang of Firstborn in DTLA, who will be working with his preferred ingredients like Duck Sausage and Red Sichuan Peppercorns. Reserve on Resy beginning at 5 p.m.

French bakery and all-day-dining destination OH LA LA in Pasadena has really piqued my interest with everything from a Kouign Amann to Weekend Happy Hour and Live Jazz during date night dinner service on Friday and Saturday nights. Friends Maxence Bouvier and Thomas Kocer founded the restaurant in 2024. I like the neighborhood vibes of a place that changes its menu based on what time of day you visit. This is a top spot for what to eat in LA this week because you can keep coming back for more.
