National Doughnut Day turns 80 this year and it’s never been better! What was once just a day reserved to celebrate the “Doughnut Lassies” of WWI has now expanded its circle to include all of us! This time a “round” I’ve got doughnuts for do-gooders, freeloaders, and just plain feasters!

Astro Donuts & Fried Chicken is celebrating nationwide with the launch of the new Blueberry Sour Cream “Muffin” Doughnut with ALL proceeds going to the Salvation Army! Locations include D.C.; Falls Church, VA; and our own in Downtown Los Angeles.
The Salvation Army along with Bakemark will be hosting their second annual Salvation Army’s Donut Eating Championship at 11:30 AM at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Professional eaters will have eight minutes to consume as many glazed donuts as they can to help raise funds for veterans services in Los Angeles.
The glazed gorge record to beat?? 55 held by Joey Chestnut.
Doughnuts for Free
Krispy Kreme is once again handing out free donuts with NO PURCHASE NECESSARY! Doors open at 5:30 AM but even then be prepared for long lines and smiling faces 🙂
Kettle Glazed in Hollywood will be giving away one free donut with purchase. Why not make yours a Chocolate Glazed Croissant Style!
Also with purchase, Dunkin Donuts, is handing out free classic donuts with the purchase of any beverage. Don’t be confused if you don’t see your favorites on the menu, specially “dressed up for the occasion” some will have new names and designs like the Vanilla Frosted Donut which has been renamed “Party On”.
Doughnuts for Doughnuts Sake!
Celebrate National Doughnut Day with a “whopper” of a release! The “Whopper Donut” from Burger King features the classic burger with a hole cut out from the middle and a mini-burger on the side so you don’t feel like you’ve been cheated.
The burger will only be available in 5 locations (Boston, Miami Beach, Los Angeles, New York City or Salt Lake City ) so if you’re reading this blog you’ll probably want to head to 1601 N. Hacienda Boulevard in La Puente.
If you’re still celebrating National Doughnut Day into the night, consider this sweet ending from Beauty & Essex in Hollywood. ‘Les NYC’ Doughnuts are rounded sugar doughnuts served with dark chocolate fudge, berry and caramel sauce with a serving size that’s perfect for sharing…or not 🙂
