What is Singani?

Singani is a 500-year-old, 80-proof spirit, distilled from a single white Muscat grape variety. Even trickier, it can only be grown in the Andes at 5,250 feet! It’s also the national drink of Bolivia.

Mr. Soderbergh first discovered the liquor at the wrap party for the movie Che, and it took him nearly seven years to get his brand, Singani63, stateside.

The next hurdle was to get it recognized as its own spirit category versus classifying it as brandy. Turns out a change of government administration in the United States was necessary to pull that one off, and it didn’t happen until 2023.

What does Singani63 Taste Like?

Upon the first sip, your tastebuds will begin to ask questions, and your brain will attempt to classify this experience. Are you having tequila? Is it pisco? Turns out it’s like nothing you’ve ever tasted – and it’s really freakin’ good.

It also mixes well with almost any cocktail combination, from Daiquiris to Margaritas and even a Bloody Mary. Basically, it can replace any spirit when you’re looking for a little more color on the canvas of your cocktail game.

Where to Find Singani63?

It’s hard not to find a Los Angeles hot spot serving the beverage, but sometimes you have to ask for it by name. Checker Hall in Highland Park does amazing work with Singani63 like the Screaming Parrot which features the spirit alongside walnut bitters, pineapple, orgeat, and rum.

You’ll also find Singani63 at Bavel, Employees Only, The Hollywood Roosevelt, Salazar, and many more! Enter your zipcode on their website to find the closest watering hole to you that’s serving the sauce.

You can also enjoy it à la Soderbergh style in the comfort of your own home, and prepare for the creativity to pour in. Purchase directly on their website and take advantage of FREE SHIPPING when you order two bottles.

If you just can’t wait for inspiration to arrive, order on Drizly, where they’ll deliver it to you in a few hours and also have it for a few dollars less.

Local to Los Angeles? K&L Wine Merchants in Hollywood has the best price of them all.

For the exclusivity of this spirit and the difficulty involved in harvesting grapes in the extreme weather conditions of the Andes mountains, it’s priced EXTREMELY fair – but as popularity grows faster than the grapes – it’s not guaranteed to last. Get yours today, and don’t miss out on your big Hollywood ending.
