Hottest Restaurant Openings and Reopenings in Los Angeles

The city is officially completely reopened! Along with that comes some hot new restaurant openings and reopenings in Los Angeles to help launch us back into our former reality. Here’s where you should be eating this month.

October 2021

Fixins Soul Kitchen (DTLA)

This is the second Fixins Soul Kitchen following the original’s success in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood. The restaurant was founded by former NBA All-Star and Mayor of Sacramento Kevin Johnson “KJ” and his wife, Michelle. The restaurant pays homage to the soul food KJ grew up with and celebrates African-American culture.

Menu highlights include dishes like Chicken and Waffles and Shrimp and Grits with all the “fixins” like Collard Greens and Candied Yams. I’m excited to get my hands on some Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs and an Adult Kool-Aid.

Fixins Soul Kitchen is located at L.A. Live Hours of operation are Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays, Saturdays, and Game Days from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Make your reservations here.

Rooz (West Hollywood)

Rooz, a new modern Persian-Mediterranean eatery, will be hosting a three-day pop-up at the Soho House in West Hollywood. Rooz is a healthy-fast casual concept from female entrepreneur Natasha Firoozi. She could never find the Persian flavors she was looking for on the go, so she crafted her own contemporary version of traditional Persian restaurants. Must-haves include Saffron Chicken Kabobs and Plant-Based Persian Meatballs.

Rooz is located at the Soho House, and the pop-up takes place from October 21st to the 23rd from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Make your reservations on the Soho House App (Members Only).

Look for a brick-and-mortar from Natasha Firoozi in the next year.

Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles (Mid City)

Roscoe’s has been serving up the sublime Chicken and Waffles combination for 46 years now, and October 20th, 2021, has been officially declared Roscoe’s National Chicken & Waffles Day. They will be celebrating by pursuing more philanthropic efforts through Roscoe’s Motivation For Change Foundation and serving up a new menu item at their latest location on La Brea.

The Waffle Tender™ will be available at select locations only for a limited time. The new restaurant at 1865 South La Brea Avenue will be open shortly with hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Flower Burger(WeHo)

Flower Burger, the plant-based eatery from Italy, will be opening its first brick and mortar location on Thursday, October 21st! They have been serving standouts like the Chick Pea Burger and the Cherry-Bomb out of a ghost kitchen in Culver City for the past year. The bun colors come from natural ingredients like spirulina and cherry extract.

To celebrate the opening, free mini-burgers will be served all day, and there will be a live DJ on site.

Flower Burger is open Sunday to Thursday from 1130 a.m. to 1030 p.m. and Friday to Saturday from 1130 a.m. to midnight. Delivery from your favorite apps is also available

Bicyclete Bistro (West Los Angeles)

If you have a gaping hole for travel in your heart, then you’ll love the feeling of stepping into Paris at Bicyclette Bistro, from Chefs Charles and Margarita Manzke. The Parisian-style bistro and bar opened on June 16th, and they will be adding a tasting-menu concept upstairs later this year.

Next, on the drinks side, you’ll enjoy an all-French wine list divided by region with a focus on vins de soif  or wines to enjoy now. The cocktail menu is a delightful read with cartoons and photographs in between pages of Aperitifs and classic cocktails like Kir Royale with a crème di cassis that was sourced in Dijon, France.

Along with the new debut comes a new Executive Chef, Chris Flint (Maude, Eleven Madison Park); as well as a new Bar Director Adam Fournier (2021 U.S. World Class Bartender of the Year by USBG and Diageo) among others.

The meal is a feast for all senses beginning with a walk through The Galerie art space next door. Next, you’ll enjoy dishes like the Scallop Ceviche with avocado, radish, and jalapeño; Foie Gras with strawberry, onion, and mustard greens; and Glazed Lobster with turnips, leeks, and vanilla. Lastly, on the sweet side you’ll have Pistachio Cake with cherries and brittle; and Butter Mochi with dulce de leche and sesame.

The wine program from Sommelier Scott Lester (French Laundry) has over 2000 choices for you, with a focus on California wines. The innovative cocktail menu focuses on punny drinks such as You had me at Fellow. This can also be made without alcohol and uses orange-vanilla soda sweetened only with monk fruit.
