Lady Byrd Cafe is your Ultimate Hipster Grandma Spot

Hipster Grandma refers to a style that can combine an oversized hand-knit sweater and a bolero hat and makes it look cool. It must be paired with an effortlessness that can’t be pulled off by just anyone. Lady Byrd Cafe in Echo Park, from restauranteur Misty Mansouri, is that Hipster Grandma!

The Spot!

The original Lady Byrd Cafe is shaped like the Flatiron building, with seating that follows an indoor/outdoor flow. When the pandemic was upon them in 2020, they redesigned the parking lot into a COVID-friendly secret garden meets thrift store. Each table feels like a unique corner of the world, either shrouded by various trees or enclosed in a greenhouse. The dishes and glasses are a hodge-podge of different floral prints and textures. During the day, you’ll feel like you are eating in an English garden, while in the evening, you’ll be transported to your own Parisian rendezvous with twinkling lights.

What to Eat

Their menu is American with European sensibilities; from Chicken Panini to Beef Burgers and Bolognese Pasta during lunch and dinner, to Spanish Frittata and Salmon Benedict at Breakast. Weekend brunch offers both menus at your fingertips.

Know More – Weekend Brunch

I visited during Breakfast and can highly recommend the Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes ($16.50) made with ricotta and topped with jam, whipped cream, and honey; as well as the Pork Benedict ($18) over brioche with a citrus hollandaise.

What to Drink

It was hard not to spot a table splitting a carafe of Mimosas ($37), but you’ll also find Soju-based Cocktails and a wide variety of Wines and Beers.

If you’re not imbibing, find your way over to the Juice Menu for something like The Little Bee Hummingbird with mango, pineapple, coconut milk, plantain, and cinnamon agave ($12).

The restaurant opens at 8:30 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends. They are open until 9 p.m. most nights for dinner. Expect a short wait if you visit during Brunch peak times. Reservations are only available for dinner. My advice: come early on the weekends to get your hands on a greenhouse.
