46 Insanely Fun Things to Do in July in Los Angeles

It’s hot outside, but so is your social calendar. Here’s what to do in July in Los Angeles that will have you begging others to keep up with your sizzling self!

July 1st-4th

On Saturday, July 1st, head to LACMA for Latin Sounds in Hancock Park beginning at 5 p.m.

Also, on Saturday, it’s Pee Wee’s Big Adventure at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary, and it includes fireworks. Tickets are $20, and gates open as early as 7:15 p.m. to a 9 p.m. show. 

Lastly, Tonalism is back at Descanso Gardens with ambient sounds as night falls among the flowering trees. The event takes place from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 1st, and includes live music and immersive sound installations. Tickets are $30 for members and $35 for non-members.

July 1st and 2nd is the 626 Night Market at the Santa Anita Race Park in Arcadia. This is the largest night market on the West Coast and features street vendors, live music, games, and more. Tickets are just $5, and the event goes from 4 p.m. to Midnight. Kids under 3 are FREE!

Get your July 4th holiday started as early as Sunday, July 2nd, with three nights of the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular with The Beach Boys at The Hollywood Bowl. July 5th – 9th

Wednesday, July 5th, kids and adults alike can enjoy a screening of The Little Mermaid at the legendary El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood for just $10 before 10 a.m. This 9:30 a.m. screening will run from July 5th through the 23rd. Get your reserved seating tickets here.

Thursday, July 6th, is National Fried Chicken Day, so celebrate with a bucket of the best. The Top 7 Spots in Los Angeles for Fried Chicken await you.

Also, July 6th is your chance to rub elbows with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh as he shares the story of his premium spirit, Singani 63, and the almost 9-year journey to designate the Bolivian beverage as its own spirit category in the U.S. The meal features a 3-course menu with 4 beverage pairings crafted with Singani 63. The cost is $80 per person, and tickets can be purchased here. Dinner takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Checker Hall in Highland Park and is done in collaboration with K&L Wine Merchants.

Friday, July 7th, and every Friday in July offers FREE Jazz on the plaza at LACMA beginning at 6 p.m. No reservation is needed, but arrive early to claim a seat or a spot for a picnic.

Also, Friday, July 7th, is the first L.A. Zoo Friday Nights which gives you access to the L.A. Zoo after closing time and features live DJs and a full bar. Get your tickets for less than $20 with this link. Hours are 6 to 9 p.m.

Friday, July 7th, and subsequent Fridays also offers a chance to take FREE Dance Lessons at the Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles. July 7th is West African Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. More details here.

Saturday, July 8th, is the Long Beach Taco and Tequila Festival from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event celebrates taco and tequila culture through entertainment, live music, and of course, great food and drinks. Saturday, July 8th, and every Saturday in July, offers a FREE Latin Sounds Concert, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Hancock Park area of the LACMA compound in mid-city.

Saturday, July 8th, Sunday, July 9th, and every weekend in July is a great chance to enjoy a Rooftop Movie at the Montalbán Theater in Hollywood. Screenings begin at 8 p.m., and discounted tickets are available here. Screenings include Love Seat Style Seating and Headphones. The film for July 8th is Pulp Fiction, while July 9th is The Crow.

Sunday, July 9th, is the opening of the Dunkin’ Dream Store at 3335 S Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, in Downtown Los Angeles, to celebrate the new Barbie movie. Menus, donut cases, and even the donut artists themselves will be decked out for the occasion.

While the store will stay “ticked pink” until July 21st, the only day to get FREEBIES is July 9th, 2023.

Guests can treat themselves to one FREE Medium Dunkin’ Refresher while supplies last.

Also, on July 9th is the return of the famed Calabama Breakfast Sandwich at Bar Next Door in West Hollywood.

For those who don’t remember, Calabama was famous for one of the hottest breakfast sandwiches in town – that came from a Hollywood window and was dropped several stories down in a bucket. Brunch begins at 11 a.m. until they run out. Craft Cocktails will also be served.

July 10th-17th

Friday, July 14th, is Bastille Day! Get yourself to Francophile favorite Petit Trois in Hollywood as early as Noon for Steak Tartare and Burgundy Escargots.

Also, July 15th is Frida La Experencia by Primestor at Plaza La Alameda in Walnut Park from 4 to 9 p.m. It’s an evening of live music, theater, dancing, and all things Frida. The event is designed to “celebrate Frida Kahlo’s art, love, and life.” Admission is FREE.

Sunday, July 16th is National Ice Cream Day, and The Dolly Llama is celebrating with a limited-time offer that lasts all through July. The new menu item features a Belgian OG Liege Waffle topped with salted caramel ice cream, and tons of Chunky CHIPS AHOY!

Rori’s Artisanal Creamery in Santa Monica is celebrating with FREE Toppings with the purchase of Ice Cream and BOGO Ice Cream Pints.

Sunday, July 16th, is the monthly Sunday Funday Drag Show event at Nerano Beverly Hills. Reservations begin at Noon and the performance starts at 12:30 p.m.

Sunday, July 16th, is also the monthly Summer Matinee Series at The Milky Way Restaurant on West Pico Blvd. If you’re not familiar, the restaurant was started by Bernie and Leah (Spielberg) Adler, who also happens to be Steven Spielberg’s late mother. The Summer Matinee Series highlights the films of only one director — and I bet you can guess who :)). July 16th will show E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial along with a special 3-course meal for $52 or 2-courses for $22 for children. Reservations are available via Resy.


July 17th-23rd

Tuesday, July 18th, is the FREE Day at the L.A. Arboretum. Spots open up on July 1st. Get your tickets here ASAP, as free fills up fast.

KCRW Summer Nights is on! It’s happening Thursday, July 20th, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at The Hammer Museum in Westwood. The concert is 100% FREE, and you can RSVP here! KCRW Summer Nights will also be at various other venues around the city beginning on July 6th, 2023.

Friday, July 21st, is National Hot Dog Day, and I expect the dog deals to be coming soon. Check back after the first week of July.

The event takes place from 3 to 8 p.m. and is open to all ages. Picnicking is encouraged, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. More details can be found on the website.


July 24th-31st

Friday, July 28th, offers FREE Live jazz at LACMA at 6 p.m. and Zoo Nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Please see last week for more details.

Saturday, July 29th, has two outdoor movie screenings for you to consider. Aladdin is going on at Santa Anita Park at 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Get tickets here for just $10.
