Here’s 44 Things to do in August in Los Angeles

August in Los Angeles might mean the end of summer, but it’s not over yet! Join me outside this month for free concerts, delicious events, screenings, and more! There are more things to do than days to do them this month!

July 31st to August 3rd in Los Angeles

Thursday, July 31st, is National Avocado Day, and spots like Tocaya and Chipotle are serving up the good, green stuff for FREE! At Tocaya you just have to spend $15 or more to get FREE Chips and Guacamole. Chipotle will be paying it forward to rewards members.

Thursday, July 31st, and every Thursday in August, features a different live music offering at The Original Farmers Market, next to The Grove. Concerts take place from 7 to 9 p.m. July closes out Altadena Musicians Month.

Friday, August 1st, and every Friday until October, offers FREE Jazz on the plaza at LACMA beginning at 6 p.m. No reservation is needed, but arrive early to claim a seat or a spot for a picnic near the Smidt Welcome Plaza.

Friday, August 1st, is also National Spritz Day. Celebrate high above Hollywood at Bar Lis at the Thompson Hollywood with a Summer Spritz featuring Casamigos Blanco, Lillet Blanc, and orange blossom water.

Also pouring is the Santa Monica Proper with their Cabo Spritz. The hotel also happens to be hosting a Loreto Pop-Up on the terrace for the rest of summer from Thursday to Sunday from Noon to 8 p.m. I can’t think of a more perfect pairing.

Saturday, August 2nd, and every Saturday throughout this month, offers FREE Latin Sounds in Hancock Park through LACMA. The event begins at 5 p.m. No reservations are needed, but come early to claim your spot on the dance floor.

Saturday, August 2nd, is a KCRW Summer Nights Concert in the daytime! The event takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. at Kidspace! Admission is FREE, but be sure to reserve on their website.

August 2nd has recently been inaugurated as “Dia de Bolero” in Los Angeles and you can celebrate with the 9th annual Boleros de Noche at The Ford Theater. This will be the last year you can enjoy this concert at The Ford before it moves to The Greek next year. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. for an 8 p.m. show, and you can get tickets here.


Saturday, August 2nd, is a KCRW Summer Nights Concert featuring Hello Stranger Presents: Eddie Chacon, Thee Heart Tones, and Society of Shadows from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is free, but be sure to reserve your spot on Eventbrite. This week, it’s at The Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park.

Saturday, August 2nd, and Sunday, August 3rd, is Roswell That Ends Well, presented for FREE by the legendary theatre troupe The Actors’ Gang. The 45-minute production takes place at 11 a.m. in Media Park in Downtown Culver City, and reservations are available on their website. The production is a Shakespeare adaptation for all ages.

Sunday, August 3rd, is Free National Parks Entrance Day as part of the Great American Outdoors Act (and shockingly, it hasn’t been vetoed yet). So get outside and explore! Learn more at this link.


August 4th to 10th in Los Angeles

Tuesday, August 5th, is National Oyster and IPA Day, and I can’t think of two things that go better together than suds and sea creatures. Favorite spots to celebrate include The Lonely Oyster in Echo Park and Rock & Reilly’s at Topanga Social, where all IPAs are Happy Hour Priced.

Tuesday, August 5th, Dudamel conducts Ellington and Ravel at The Hollywood Bowl. Tickets begin at just $26 with this link.

Saturday, August 9th, is the 66th Anniversary of Chez Jay in Santa Monica from 3 p.m. to midnight. We’re in an unprecedented time for restaurant closures in Los Angeles, so it feels good to celebrate history. Be a part of it with FREE RSVP’s on Chez Jay’s website. Sunday, August 17th, is The Hitching Post 2 Summer Cookout at A.O.C. (Sideways anyone?) The multicourse meal will be available at $125 per guest with optional Hitching Post. Wine pairings at $65 – this is not a time to skip the wine pairing, though. Book online at OpenTable Experience to dine from 5 to 9 p.m. 

Sunday, August 17th, is a Y2K Splashzone Party at the Kimpton Everly Hollywood. The rooftop Pool Party includes a live DJ and themed cocktails harkening back to MySpace and Boy Bands from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is FREE, and you don’t need to be a hotel guest to enjoy. 

Sunday, August 17th, is the FREE House Music Dance Party Series, Gloria Molina Grand Park’s Sunday Sessions at Gloria Molina Grand Park. The event takes place from 3 to 8 p.m. and features legends of house music. No tickets are necessary. Food and Beverages will be for sale, but no outside alcohol is permitted. Picnicking is encouraged.

August 18th to 24th in Los Angeles

Thursday, August 21st, and every Thursday in August, features a different live music offering at The Original Farmers Market next to The Grove. Concerts take place from 7 to 9 p.m.

Tuesday, August 26th, is a very cool collab at Wildcrust in Highland Park for So You Think You Can Toss? The Guest Chef of the night will be the Chef de Cuisine of Tsubaki, who will create two pizzas inspired by dishes from her current menu. Think Trumpet Mushrooms and Garlicky Miso Tomato Sauce. Wildcrust from Chef/Owner Miles Okabayashi specializes in traditional Neopolitan techniques with 48-hour fermented sourdough. Thursday, August 28th, and every Thursday in August, features a different live music offering at The Original Farmers Market next to The Grove. Concerts take place from 7 to 9 p.m.

Friday, August 29th, and every Friday until October, offers FREE Jazz on the plaza at LACMA beginning at 6 p.m. No reservation is needed, but arrive early to claim a seat or a spot for a picnic.

Friday, August 29th, is a KCRW Summer Nights Concert from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is FREE, but be sure to reserve on their website. This week, it’s at Descanso Gardens for members only.

Saturday, August 30th, is Latin Sounds in Hancock Park. The free event begins at 5 p.m. See the schedule here.

Saturday, August 30th, is The Hunger Games at The Autry Museum at 8:30 p.m. This screening is presented by Street Food Cinema, which has outdoor screenings weekly on its website. Tickets begin at $28.88 and include Musical Performances and access to Food Trucks.

Saturday, August 30th, and Sunday, August 31st, is the Gelato Festival World Masters at Ovation Hollywood. The event showcases the ten best gelato chefs in the country who are competing to represent North America in the World Finals for 2026. Purchase tickets here beginning at $27.25 to enjoy Gelato Tastings, demonstrations, and the chance to be part of the competition.
