Positive Pivoting after COVID-19

We are in the midst of a major world shift where it feels like life as we knew it will never be the same. But does that have to be a bad thing? Here are some of my favorite companies in Los Angeles that are doing some positive pivoting after COVID-19.

Snackpass

During a time where delivery apps like Doordash and Ubereats have been put in their place for price gauging restaurants with commission fees, Snackpass has been the first one to completely ELIMINATE them! That’s right, they have taken zero commission fees during the pandemic that has resulted in so many of us relying on dining apps.

Now they’ve added one more positive pivot to their business model: the digital menu!

What is a Digital Menu?

A digital menu is a barcode that brings up a restaurant’s menu instantly on your smartphone after taking a photo of it. Customers can use it to both place an order and pay without having to download an app! Making for a stress-free, contactless experience.Snackpass-Digital-Menu

Once again restaurants pay NOTHING in fees and have ample opportunities to offer suggested menu items to hungry customers scrolling through the pretty pictures.

Currently, you can find Snackpass at popular L.A. restaurants like Chinchikurin in Little Tokyo and L’ Antica Pizzeria Da Michele in Hollywood with many more set to launch soon.

Frontline Foods

Frontline Foods, along with partners Chef José Andrés and World Central Kitchen, has already delivered over 500,000 meals to hospitals across the country; feeding the frontline workers and helping restaurants stay afloat. What’s their most recent pivot? The group has now begun feeding protestors and helping to support black-owned businesses.

How you can help: Consider donating to their solidarity donation page which sends funds to those businesses who are in most need right now and is helping to balance the scales of justice in our community.

Nosotros Tequila

Nosotros Tequila, the independent Tequila brand out of Hermosa Beach, stood firm with their company mission statement when deciding to manufacture hand sanitizer. Rather than letting their product fade away, they adjusted, “to create premium-quality tequila that brings people together…to drive toward a common good.”

The Hand Sanitizer Spray is 80% alc./vol., and the bottle looks like a mini version of their tequila. It’s available exclusively on the website and costs $11 for a 200 ML bottle. While you’re there pick up a bottle of Blanco too –the double agave blend gives it a one of a kind sweet and herbal finish.

The Lee Initiative

Following a busy run helping to feed out of work restaurant workers, the Lee Initiative is pivoting after COVID-19 to get the restaurants back up and running in the most cyclical way possible.

The LEE Initiative’s Restaurant Reboot Relief Program will be spending at least $1 million to purchase food from sustainable farmers in 16 regions to then give that food directly to restaurants in those areas. The restaurants that have hosted relief centers will be receiving the food and helping to select which other restaurants will be receiving the food as well.

Find out more about other programs from The Lee Initiative here.

La Cita

The music never stopped at La Cita, the historic music venue in DTLA, where they’ve been hosting live streams of cocktail making sessions and regularly scheduled DJ parties on their Instagram and Twitch pages. They’ve also created a GoFundMe page to help provide relief to the bar staff on temporary leave.

Stay tuned for the reopening date — but until then you can enjoy the fiesta from your futon!

Casita del Campo

Keep a safe distance while still spreading some love with a Casita Del Campo “Love Mask” from their website. The cost is $20 plus $5 shipping unless you’re picking it up. Designed by Wardrobe Stylist Estevan Ramos, proceeds will go to help support the restaurant staff during this time. All masks come with a LOVE signature Casita Del Campo pin to help let others know what you’re all about.

The restaurant is open for pickup and delivery from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
